Ctrl + S : Tell us about yourself!

Lane Grigson : I am from Dallas, TX and I am a sophomore in Craft and Design, mainly focusing on glass. I am
interested in space and storytelling within my art. I originally wanted to make science fiction concept art,
I like the idea of creating a piece of art that has a place in another world besides our own.

Ctrl + S : What are some of the motivations for your piece?

LG : The Latona Galxy lamp is a distant galaxy. In the future humans experimented with dangerous technology and were forced to leave Earth and travel to this new galaxy. There are lots of different ways
to get textures and effects of color and glass and I wanted to experiment with creating different atmospheres and types of planets, like gas giants with swirls of color, or a water planet with intentionally
placed bubbles to represent cities floating on the surface. For my pieces I like to write a lot of background information, even if people don’t see it, it allows me to further develop what I’m working on.

Ctrl + S :  What is your process like?

LG : I like to work with music. I always have headphones in while I'm working, If I am making something related to space, I like to listen to more electronic music to try and get into the space where the object I am making lives. I also like to work at night, I think it's calmer, and it's easier to get into the flow state.

Ctrl + S : Any general goals for yourself and/or your art?

LG :
I have a few more years to learn skills and practice at CIA, after school, I want to keep making art. I think I will always use glass as a medium to create, but I think other materials like wood and metals
will come into my practice.
